The film revolves around a high school student Taku and the relationship with his friend Yutaka and a girl who has just transfered from Tokyo. As Taku is waiting at Kichijōji Station he glimpes a familiar woman on the platform opposite. Later on he sees her photo as it falls off a shelf in his apartment. He leaves to catch a plane to Kōchi. As the planes flies off he starts to narrate the events in his life that brought her into his life.
I can’t pretend that this is at the same level as other releases from Studio Ghibli. However one has to remember that this was a noble attempt by Studio Ghibli to give other younger staff members a chance to direct on a relatively cheap budget. Unfortunately it ended up going over budget and over schedule.
