Abby Normal scene from Young Frankenstein, Mel Brooks, 20th Century Fox

Young Frankenstein is one of those films that remains funny regardless of how many times you’ve watched it. A great cast and Mel Brooks at his best. He can make the same joke several times and it still gets a laugh. Such a scene is the one when they first meet Frau Blücher(Cloris Leachman). Every time someone mentions her name the horses start neighing and getting scared. Just when you think the joke is stretched far enough, Marty Feldman, as Igor, turns round and does it one more time. The scene that always gets me going though is the one where Frankenstein (Gene Wilder) asks Igor to get him a brain. When Frankenstein asks him the name of the person the brain belonged to, Igor says, “Abby someone”. Frankenstein says, “Abby who?”. Igor, “Abby Normal”. Well, it may not sound funny when I write it down, but just watch the clip.

It’s great to see these two natural comedians acting together. It’s just insanely funny.
